The Coast to Coast Seminar is an hour-long presentation given on a scientific topic and made accessible to audiences at a number of remote sites through collaboration technology. The theme for the Fall 2011 Coast to Coast Seminar Series is "Modelling of Complex Systems". The coordinator of the series is Dr. Warren Hare, Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Science, University of British Columbia.

Showcasing Collaborative & Interdisciplinary research in HIV/AIDS at SFU on October 7th. We have teamed up with the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS to present a one day conference bringing together SFU researchers who are working within the field of HIV/AIDS in various capacities and disciplines.

The main focus of this truly interdisciplinary event will be on some very recent research related to modelling of complex social sysems, ie systems that exhibit dynamic properties that cannot be explained by the characteristics of their individual components. The topics will range from network topologies to criminology and contemporary health related issues.

As part of the IRMACS 2011 Thematic Year showcasing Scientific Modelling at SFU, the IRMACS Centre is pleased to present between August 10-12, 2011, the joint workshops titled "Our Complex World: Representation, Analysis and Modeling" by the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS).

As part of the IRMACS Thematic Year: “Scientific Modelling at SFU”, the IRMACS Centre was pleased to host the first IRMACS Modelling Summer School. The School was held in the IRMACS Centre from July 4th - July 15th, 2011.
